Hooking Up & Staying Hooked is back with our next edition of “Things Jerks Do” – a simple list of behaviors to avoid if you don’t want her to think you’re an a-hole. Maybe you’ve been guilty of some of these before or maybe these are things you never knew not to do. Either way, now there is no excuse.

Burp First

Some girls don’t mind belching – some even brag about their gaseous abilities. But there are more girls that are grossed out by your burps than those swooning in the smell coming from your mouth afterward. If you two are sharing a meal (homemade or otherwise) and you are liberal with the burps, she’s likely to be turned off. Mind your manners, cover your mouth, and do your best to keep it quiet.

Answer their phone in the middle of a date

She deserves to feel like no one else is as important whenever she is around. Picking up your phone when hanging out with her is an easy way to show her she is in second place to whomever’s on the other line. Most likely, whatever it is can wait. So put the phone away.

Fail to Introduce Her

If you and she are out together somewhere and you run into someone that you know – YOU HAVE TO INTRODUCE HER. You don’t have to say, “this is my girlfriend, her name here” or “this is my date, her name here” (you shouldn’t if you two haven’t had a talk to define the relationship yet), but you have to at least do the cordial, “Friend’s name, this is girl’s name, girl’s name this is friend’s name.” If you don’t introduce her she will think you’re embarrassed by her, she could suspect there are other girls you have on the side, or she could feel like she’s not important enough to meet your friends. Do the simple introduction and save yourself from seeming like a jerk.
